Snapchat: how to protect your children on the app
Among the apps most used by young people, especially children and teenagers, there is obviously Snapchat.
Using the social network can often expose children to many unsuspected dangers. That is why it is strongly recommended to use parental control tools.

Accessing someone else’s account without authorization is illegal. This content is educational and is meant to help you recover your own account or that of a loved one, for example a child under your legal responsibility.
Originally, parental control systems were either affiliated directly with the operating system or you had to download third-party software. From now on, this will no longer be the case when it comes to Snapchat.
The social network is going to focus on a parental control system integrated directly into its application. It is this tool that will allow parents not only to monitor their children’s activities on the social network, but also to know what kind of contacts they are hanging out with.
Obviously we can understand the concern of parents, especially when we know what toxic impact social networks can have on children. Not only are they exposed to meeting people with bad intentions, but they are often flooded with false information, conspiracy theories and any other data capable of impacting their intellectual and social development.
Since the scandal of the “Facebook Papers”, the majority of platforms such as Snapchat, Instagram and even Facebook are trying to find a way to determine how to create a safe framework for children.
Next to Instagram, an algorithm has been developed that makes it possible to guess the age of the user. The social network then relies on publications or content visited regularly, all submitted to artificial intelligence.

The concept on Snapchat’s side that allows parents to control their children’s digital life on the network is called Family Center.
“Today, Snapchat is a central communication tool for young people and as our community continues to grow, we know that parents and guardians want other ways to keep their teenagers safe,” Snap Inc. emphasized in a recent statement.
Family Center is what we can call an additional feature to protect minors. Indeed as we already know, minors do not have the right to have public accounts on Snapchat. Moreover, they have private accounts.
What exactly does this new feature consist of?
Family Center gives parents the possibility to know who their children’s direct correspondents are. Of course the content of conversations remains confidential. Parents will also have the possibility to access their children’s friend list to have an idea of who corresponds with them.
“Family Center is designed to reflect the way parents interact with their teenagers in the real world, where parents generally know who their teenagers are friends with and when they hang out – but do not listen to their private conversations.”, explains the social network.
In addition, parents also have the possibility to contact Snapchat and to flag accounts that they consider suspicious.
